Hi all,
Im a new member that is amped to get some stuff on here and more importantly check what all you cool cats are doing.
Could anyone tell whether Hachimantai ( the one with just 3 chair lifts ) is going again for the 09/10 winter. If not is there anywhere I could rent a good enough snowmobile to go ride these lines and how would I get permission for such an activity.
Ps hopefully my Armada JJs turn up tomorra so I can slash some NZ corn.
whoooooo whoo

There doesn't seem to be anything on the website suggesting it will not be running. It is running this summer for sightseeing. The website FAQs say they will open for winter in mid-Dec.
I have never heard of the place.
I have never heard of anyone renting sleds for backcountry use in Japan. Tours happen though. If sledding is what you're after i suggest you contact these guys. http://nisekopowderholidays.com/snowmobile-tours.html They will know more than we do and they will be able to speak english.

Hachimantai is a bit of a low-key freeride place with few rules AFAIK. It has a bit of a quiet following with a core crew.

yeh its an awesome spot when I was their on a so called bad season. only knee deep warm powder. My friend and I were the only people staying in the pension which holds over 100 people. We were normally the only ones on the lifts

I wanted to rent a mountain sled to go up Hachimantai if its not opening lifts. I think the one you have the jp website for is the resort which is a different mountain.
cheers Jase
I think the website
I think the website stillnoprogress put up was a suggestion as an alternative place that does offer sled rentals since rentals aren't so common in Japan. If Hachimantai is in any sort of prefecutural or national park, they're probably not allowed.
Maybe stick this up in the forums. Might get a better response there.
And welcome to PN.
