Going live
I'd like to get this puppy on the road and put the development behind me. Its taken 2 solid week plus of long days late nights and a sore back from working at my kotatsu.
Who wants to see t go live this week and what strategy (promotional) are we going to use to get the party started?

I figure we go live on a slow burn. Let some content build, get some merchanidise ready and THEN do a public blitz. What we should do now is just get it out on TGR and invite those guys who are interested but let them know that there is limited beta as of now but our intention to grow it. As we get a some more posters (hopefully a couple who can add beta, stoke or something) and we have momentum, we come up with gimicks and push it hard using some guerrilla campaign.

Think of it as going from beta testing to limited pre-release. Using a few more users in an open format will be useful in itelf. We can have a full launch after I make the high end stickers! I will be in Canada next week and I can talk to my bro about a lot of graphic stuff for t-shirts, hats, etc.

Cool. When do you think we should drop that first level of security, that is, make it so the site is visible on the internet to anyone? We could turn that off, but still run the low-key pre-release phase.
Google web indexing spiders probably dot like being told to stay out by the security screen, which is exactly what's happening. They may stop coming back if told to stay out too many times.

I think it is ok to drop it now. This isn't an official launch but a post-beta test focus group. We will buidl content and have a big launch in Sept when people are excited about skiing again.

Are visitors free to join the community during this phase? I need to know what settings to implement.

Yah, I figure we open it up completely but don't really promote it. That way we can build a bit of a content base for the official launch when we poach SJ etc.
