Hello.
My name is Scotsman and in 10 days I arrive in Hakuba with my family and two friends to sample (hopefully) the wonderful skiing I have been reading about on this site and others for the past year. To say I am excited is an understatement!
I'm Scottish but live in Seattle and my wife and friends are American. My son is 17 and a good skier and tourer and he's coming as well.
We're experienced BC tourers ( and resort skiers) with good avy skills( two of our group are avy instructors) and we'll be staying in the Hakuba Powder Lodge from the 12th until the 24th of Feb.
We hope to do some touring and hit the sidecountry at some of the resorts and are most of all looking forward to meeting the local snow riding and skiing community.
Look us up if you can as we'd love to ski with you all ( and get shown some of your secret stashes
)
I'm bringing Rossi S7's mounted with Dukes for the resort and side-country and a pair of Voile Drifters mounted with Dynafiddlies for the BC.
I've booked up for a day's touring with Hakuba Alpine Guides to get the lay of the land and a better understanding of the local snow and avy conditions.
I can be reached at the Powder Lodge during the dates shown above or at chrisw@pacificpile.com
Drop in or drop me a line at the email above; we'd love to hook up with some locals.
cheers
Chris .

PS. I also need to get some Poachninja stickers for back home. There's a couple of lines at my local resort, Crystal Mountain ( I ski there about 3 days a week) that need to be poached. See my local ski hill. http://www.skicrystal.com/

Thanks everybody.
So educate me. When we first arrive we intend to ski the resorts and sidecountry for a couple of days before meeting up with HAG for our guided BC day.
I love sking sidecountry and trees and want to sample all the resorts as well as the BC.
Can you suggest which resort to start off with etc. ????( I've read the WIKI and of course it depends on conditions)
Thanks
Very cool. See ya there!
I know your probably itching to dial in everything for your trip, but there is no need to stress. Link up with the Finns at HPL when you get there, Talk to FT, I hear he gives away his BC stashes if you hold a baby for him. Different resorts are good for different things depending on conditions, your going to have to wait and see till you get there. I highly doubt you will be disappointed.
Happo is always a good place to start and is the closest to HPL. But you never know, it could be going off somewhere else in the valley that day.

Thank you for your wisdom Shinobi,
this agrees with my experience of Finns in the past which always involved drinking large quantities of very strong liquor and then doing very scary things and ending up naked with birch branch marks all over my back. Tremendous fun but you loose many brain cells. I will treat them with the utmost respect but caution also!
the getting naked part always happens with these guys
Hey, if your wife, friends and son are all American perhaps there will be enough Yanks to field a hockey team. I don't think there's a Scottish team in the works but if you want, I can make you an honorary American and play for the US of A. Actually, are you sure you're really Scottish? I though most were particular about the spelling of whiskey/whisky.
Anywho, welcome and hope you enjoy Japan.

Thank you tele3190.
Well actually I grew up on the grounds of a whisky distillery in the far north of Scotland. My father worked there and we lived in a company house. There was two distilleries only about 200 m apart, one old , one new. They made different whiskies , one was called Brora the other Clynelish. Most was sent to be blended into The Famous Grouse but some was sold locally as single malts. However, since I had easy access to it( my father had gallons of it as his job was testing the stuff), I got very drunk on it several times as a teenager and have been unable to drink the stuff ever since. So you are partly right, I am Scottish but I don't drink Scotch! Sorry TMI.
Are we talking field hockey here or ice hockey????
I viewed your recent post. Very nice and many of my friends up here in the PNW are telemarkers. One of my friends whose coming is a telemarker also but I think she's only bringing AT gear. A beautiful way to ski , but very hard.
I hope we meet .
^^^^ "....Are we talking field hockey here or ice hockey????...."
Not sure whats going to go down in Hakuba but in general any talk of hockey amongst North Americans is referring to ice hockey. Field hockey was strictly a girls sport back home.
Hey guys, we're not that bad
No need to be afraid of us, we're friendly.
Road hockey dude. Haven't you seen Wayne's World or Clerks? Game on!

I can assure you that in the "Old World" , field hockey is not a girl's sport. Many teeth knocked out and head wounds standard practise.
I concur with Ninjaman....... street hockey match in Hakuba... but I want the Finns on my team....... game on!
^^^ You just think field hockey is hardcore because your scotish and you wear the same skirts field hockey chicks wear.

American football. Rugby for ladies.
09/10 days on snow: 33 so far
08/09 days on snow: 51
Dear Hattori Hanzo,
Again I thank you for your wisdom. However, I most point out that playing any field sport in a kilt , without any underwear, jock straps, cups, padding etc is very dangerous and hardcore unlike the American football that as the other gentlemen says is " ladies rugby".
And Scottish has two tt's.
But I thank you for your observation and opinion. Opinions are like assholes, we all have one and thank god they're different eh?
Anyhoo, we digress.
How's the snow and forecast.??
