so I bent over and bought bindings in japan, with japan prices.
new marker griffons, (plus I had to buy larger brakes) cost me 3.7man.. yeah yeah I should have looked online. I bought them at a friend's shop where they always give my gear priority/discounts for repairs and such, so i figured I owed him some business.
**super secret paranoia!**
Ive been going back country on snow shoes for a few years now.. so I am used to it I suppose.. i like to think the hard work is good for me.. it keeps me in better shape (or something like that)... and then there is the issue of the JJ camber with skins....
and I cant just go return the bindings, my buddy hooks me up (besides the binding price
) and he always give me free ski magazines (cause they cater to snowboarders and I am the only ski clientele...)

Are you Scottish or something?

3.5 man for dukes? Can you get them in an L size for other ninjas? Im looking for a pair but theyre expensive as shit here and shipping adds too much to the price from evogear and backcountry...can you hook up a deal?

hiking in alpine boots and snowshoes? I am so glad I will never do that again. Props to you if you have been doing it for years. I'll take my pain in other ways.
Ski touring 101: Light is right.
One man wolfpack
my advice is simple dont take the bindings back.
find a cheap ski 100 to 105 in the waist and mount a freeride or naxo binding (if you can find one).
dukes are heavy and not nice hiking tools. Also the barons are a better option
for most people. the duke is din 16 I sure dont need din 16. din 12 is enough
unless you are skiing high exposure you also dont need din 16. if you twist and fall at din 10 plus
for most people that is a torn knee and the season is over. For the most part I ski on din 9. I loose
a ski if I really fuck up but I dont loose a knee. On higher exposure lines ill din up though but that is
5 to 10 times a year.

Just to comment on the above post, the difference between the Duke and Baron is teeny tiny. I have used both in alpine boots and noticed little to no difference. Both are friggen heavy.
One man wolfpack
I did not say they were the choice but that they were a better option.
Hiking all the time in snowshoes is plain silly

yeahhhh the Duke is an Alpine Touring binding retails at 450$ in the states, japan its over 5man-- the Griffons are just normal... all mountain binding. so its the functionality, not the money--
Satomi, sorry I dont think I can hook you up-- it would be a big favor just for him to get me a pair- as my buddy said its a "secret price" his ski team is sponsored by Volkl and Marker-- so I guess they are able to call the head quarters and get them via that route.
In that case I can only ofter you the gear junkie solution. By one more pair of skis.

satori considering that your ski season will start and end in hoks? Wtf do you need another pair of dukes for?
Im writting and laughing at the same time but seriously why? Its a waste of money and it is one more thing you dont need. Heck it would be better to just rent!

super secret paranoia!
if they were cheap just throw em on the 'toons, and no, it wont end in Hoks, but Haks :finger:

the "secret price" is 3.9man, (he said, "DONT TELL ANYONE OR I WILL LOSE MY SPONSORSHIP") and Ill have to buy my own 110mm brakes which are about 5000yennners
so thats 4.4man total- I can turn over my snow shoes and buy skins for that price-- Im good to go.
Im goign to go to my buddy's shop after work today and make up some awesome lie and get the cash back on the bindings--
jeez..... sure hope your "buddies" don't read poachninja.
salty margaritas
cb Why? You arent going to hike the toons it makes no sense.
Personally I hate hiking on my big boards it isnt fun, too heavy.
Last season I had to beg to get you up here dude.
With your work, you just arent going to ski after hoks, if you do ill
eat my words (and buy you six pack of yebisu). But ive seen the last 2 seasons, they were over
before cugehock even started to ski.
Catwithafiddle, barons or dukes although a better option than snowshoes are nothing campared to a real touring set-up. I would seriously consider freerides for another pair of skis. Dynafits are better but thats a
boot investment. The dukes really do suck for long tours.
Last pro deals are great. One thing you have to learn about them is, you dont talk about them if you get them.
Your friend had to sign a large form promising not to sell gear to anyone. I know of a couple people burned for selling the gear or hooking up friends. I seriously would stop talking about prices and etc. Even though this forum is small there is a chance an industry rep is watching. Many of these guys read english, as it is part of their job.

yes, super secret paranoia got the best of me!
stillnoprogress, can you replace everything i wrote with "super secret paranoia!"
but then-- I could only return those bindings for store credit-- sooooooo ill be rocking the griffons with snowshoes anyhow-
i might hit asahidake this weekend again if the weather is alright.. get my legs in check.

Make it 2 sixers of Ebisu and if I dont make it up Ill buy you a case of Ebisu.

A bottle of glenfiddich That you dont make it more than 4 times after hoks.
http://hakubapowderlodge.com/
this has to be the ghayest pissing match ever. 10 bottles says you wont hike 10 times with HAG. Who fucking cares and what fucking business is it of yours anyways. I have a career, not some bullshit, fuckall, waste-of-time ALT position/Eikaiwa job. I dont see you coming back to Kansai 4 times per year. Same fucking thing. Or what, does it make you feel better than others just cuz you get to ski more? All I hear from you is excuses about your 3 kids, yet the mountains are 1000 meters from your fucking deck. Fuck off
ロープを潜り入れ!!
3 kids (& a wife) are a bloody good excuse in my book.
Gayest sure it is, but if your season ends in Hoks like it did, ast year. Career or not, you do not need to slap dukes onto a ski for the cool factor. Excuses my ass, I spent over 100 hours trail building in Hakuba when I wasnt working my gay ALT job (truth be said that was a low blow).
Im not the one making excuses already dude. I know ill hit 50 days just like I did when I wasnt living here or didnt have kids.

These guys sound almost like if they were not friends.
Why don't you leave each other alone for once?

Tson, check my
FT is just being his typical broken record self that we all know. I skied after Haks last year at least, albeit it was April
I have a career: a HR, club, am a counselor and psychiatrist, and am a member of the International Affairs division, a board member for our labor union, on 4 different committees, on top of being a teacher. And the fact that you had all that time to build the mtn biking trails, which really were kick ass too, all you guys put in loads of man power, just proves my point of how much more free time you have on your hands - thats fantastic. My last response to this. I'll take you up on the beers mate - and we can catch up on Skype tonight I was going to get back to you last night but was chatting with my pops. Cheers!
