I just got back from a meeting encouraging my company employees to donate warm clothes and blankets to be sent up to North to those left homeless and freezing. I can't think of a group of people who would have more old cold weather gear than skiers and snowboarders. So get into your closets, get your old stuff and I will post later the means by which we can get it up there, either from Tokyo, Hakuba or whatever region you are in now. It isn't just clothes. Old sleeping bags, tents, headlamps, stoves- all the stuff we use in to stay warm, dry, illuminated and fed in the BC is what these people need now. I am sending what I have from Tokyo now and will go up and clean out my Hakuba house tonight.
Please post or link this in any other ski forums you can think of. I lost my posting privileges at many...

I looked into this at the Hakuba office and they said they were not asking or looking for that kind of stuff. Is this an official thing or just some one with a noble idea?
It is official. It was the red cross that asked us for warm clothing etc. I just gave them a full oakley bag's worth and they were very appeciative. Take your stuff to the red cross.

If you are in Tokyo Ewok, I can take them as my company is organizing our donations. We just sent a van full yesterday. Of course, also donate money as that is what individuals can best do. As I am in Hakuba now, I may be able to take donations back in my car on monday (but I wanted to take the train due to the fuel situation, so we will see). We are doing another delivery on Thursday. Soprano has told me that some of the ski resorts have started organizing this so maybe check with them.
