So can anyone beat the Canadians in Vancouver? The Finns have a strong team, Selanne and Saku Koivu will be back and they're super deep in goal with 3 of the top NHLers. The US is deep in goal too but lets face it Broduer is probably going to spend every minute in goal for the Canucks. I think the Finns and Czechs have the best chance to knock them off. I just don't like the way the US squad matches up against them.

The US has quite a few snipers and dont count out Ovechekin!
The Canadians will be pumped every game so I dont think they
will loose.

Selänne broke His jawbone on jan14 and the down time is likely to affect His training, even if recovery takes places quickly enough for Him to play..
On the other hand it doesn't matter - even if the Team Finland manages to get into the final game and are winning they typically fuck it all up during the final minutes.
This has happened over and over again.
To make it even more bitter it's all more certain to happen should they be playing against team sweden.
Hockey, who cares? Their snow is too hard.
The Russians can score, but lack defense, the American are fast, but young, the Canadians are talented but under a lot of pressure, the Sweedes are talented but have lost a few key players to injury. The thing that makes the Olympics cools is that it all all comes down to one game. So on any given night, with a few lucky bounces any team can knock off any other team.
And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too.
Mr ChugsCock is back, how are you brudda? It took a Hockey thread to get you to come out of hidding?

You guys can keep all your silly talk of powder, big lines and backpacks, but you throw down a little hockey talk and I'll get in the ring go toe to toe with anyone. ANYONE!

can we have our own hakuba olympic street hockey game?
I'm sure we have enough Canadians and Fins. Although I imagine a fair number of cheap shots from those drunkards.
game on?
The Hakuba Powder Lodge 1st Annual International Snow Hockey World Championships, the richest snow hockey game for Canadians and Finns in the history of organized sport.
We must have total coverage!

for those who can still watch video tapes, 98 nagano olympic hockey game czech vs canada sudden death i left ze video tape at hpl. but i left it in 2005 so might possibly not be there. that video tape contained not only ze hockey game but also some other hakuba stuff. anyhow im so excited about vancouver 2010. go canada.
I don't care about hockey so much and the lack of Selänne and Koivu will lead to the end result that Finland is lucky to go to the semi-finals.
But in crosscountryskiing we will rock canadian asses (if the finnish skiers pass the doping tests, that's the critical thing).
In real skiing Tanja Poutiainen is our strongest hope.
In skijumping Finnish team members may success greatly (if they don't get too drunk last night).
In nordic combined Finland also has strong racers.
I'm really sorry that in curling the Torino olympics team of Finland didn't continue to Vancouver, so I think it won't be as tight final in Vancouver as in Torino (where Canada won).
Great fucking idea but where can we get sticks?
Ive got enough foam for 2 sets of goalie pads.
http://hakubapowderlodge.com/
I'll mission to nagano if I have too for sticks. lets do this.
it would be sweet if we could plow a spot by your lodge so we could have boards made from snow.
definitely one for me to hide behind a camera for... but you guys should definitely do this.

The finnish freestyle skiing team has traditionally been strong.
The Finnish (male) mogul team is allways a force to be reckoned with.
never seemed to get her stuff together and Jenni Kilpinen swapped over to skiercross.
Unfortunately we have practically no one on the ladies team, Minna Karhu (=Bear, btw) retired, Jonna Susi (=Wolf, how ferocious the finnish ski chicks sound
The team Japan coach Janne Lahtela would still propably end up in the top ten.
He talked a lot about swapping over to pro freeride before the off axis inverts were allowed in mogul events making it more interesting again.
Thus if Aiko Uemura lures the team Japan to Hakuba there is a chance that some pretty spectacular off piste action would be seen as well

Forget next Olympics and who's gonna win.
Street hooooockey Canucks vs. Finns, let's do it!
OK, both sides can strengten their teams with other nationality of course.
Where we gonna get sticks and puck. Helmets we all have.
I will try and look for hockey sticks when in Tokyo this week.
As for the teams, Canada hardly needs ringers and can fill a line of 5 plus a goalie. I am, however, a bit concerned about the age of Team Canada. Not one of them is younger than 32 and most are well past the prime of their fitness. They may have to play dirty to keep up with the younger scandi teams...

hey, do you guys know Dave?
salty margaritas
How come no talk of a US team in this Hakuba street hockey tourney? Hell, didn't we invent the sport, along with everything else in the world?
Nope, it was invented by Bristish soldiers in Nova Scotia Canada. Although the first professional league was started in the US, the first amature league was started in Canada 5 years earlier. Anyway, are there enough yanks to field a team? I am off to buy sticks tomorrow. Are there any lefties?

Well at least we still have our baseball - except for that time in the early '90s when the Jays took it.
^^^ ya gotta throw'em a bone every once in a while, How long has it been since the Cup has been to Canada, gotta be nearly 20 years now.
One man wolfpack
Sure, you Goddamned Yanks may have cities that won the cup, but 70% of the players on those teams are Canucks. So I think that, that means WE are still somehow winning the cup every year.
And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too.
saw evergreen dave-san last sat @ cortina i think he was teaching his class or guiding or something there was one big japanese group. and i got this from winnipeg dave. kiwi dave, rugby dave, ashleys dave and dave is as popular as mike. which dave mate.

nm, takayama dave the one now in van. mostlikely montreal grad school after summer.
pinky, show off => tasteless => sorry. my name is pretty common too and people send me wrong emails.
PS im a lefty.
Im sure we could use the field to play.
It will be a ton of work to do it though.
The best way to do this is. Dig out on friday and
saturday night. stomp and pack down the ground.
let it settle then have at it. The ball will bounce everywhere
though so I think a flater area might be better.
How about the 47 parking lot?

I have been listening to Warren Zevon's "The Hockey Song" in preperation
He was born in Big Beaver by the borderline
He started playing hockey by the time he was nine
His dad took the hose and froze the back yard
And Little Buddy dreamed he was Rocket Richard
He grew up big and he grew up tough
He saw himself scoring for the Wings or Canucks
But he wasn't that good with a puck
Buddy's real talent was beating people up
His heart wasn't in it but the crowd ate it up
Through pee-wee's and juniors, midgets and mites
He must have racked up more than three hundred fights
A scout from the flames came down from Saskatoon
Said, "There's always room on our team for a goon
Son, we've always got room for a goon"
There were Swedes to the left of him
Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Brains over brawn--that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?
What else can a farm boy from Canada do?
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?
What else can a farm boy from Canada do?
Hit somebody! was what the crowd roared
When Buddy the goon came over the boards
"Coach," he'd say, "I wanna score goals"
The coach said, "Buddy, remember your role,
The fast guys get paid, they shoot, and they score
Protect them, Buddy, that's what you're here for
Protection is what you're here for
Protection--it's the stars who score
Protection--go and kick somebody's ass
Protection--don't put the biscuit in the basket just
Hit some, Buddy! it rang in his ears
Blood on the ice ran down through the years
The king of the goons with a box for a throne
A thousand stitches and broken bones
He never lost a fight on his icy patrol
But deep inside, Buddy only dreamed of a goal
He just wanted one damn goal
There were Swedes at the the blue line
Finns at the red
A Russian with a stick heading straight for his head
Brains over Brawn--that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?
What else can a farm boy from Canada do?
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?
What else can a farm boy from Canada do?
In his final season, on his final night
Buddy and a Finn goon were pegged for a fight
Thirty seconds left, the puck took a roll
And suddenly Buddy had a shot on goal
The goalie committed, Buddy picked his spot
Twenty years of waiting went into that shot
The fans jumped up, the Finn jumped too
And coldcoughed Buddy on his followthrough
The big man crumbled but he fell all right
'Cause the last thing he saw
was the flashing red light
He saw that heavenly light
There were Swedes to the left of him
Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Take care of your teeth--that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?
What else can a farm boy from Canada do?

Any stick updates?
What's a good date to get this rolling? Any weekend they'll be more bench warmers around then others? Some time during the olympiad is ideal.
Any other teams building? You stragglers (aus/usa/etc..) could make your own team. Or can play net.
I also suggest we don't dig for 2 days to make a rink. there is good spot at the South exits, or ideally FT's driveway, so we can drink and have fans. I heard Ft has a concession stand for guests although I heard dodgy rumors about a bait and switch program being run there.
great song, ze hockey song (i dont know dave's song).
"we've always got room for a goon", also room for a geek? domo might be interested. im thinking of making one more trip to hkb this season and that will be mostlikely on feb 13th wknd or following one. quatchi t-shirt will be very useful for such occasion, ms cugehock can be ze mascot muk muk and king of m and tson might wanna be in charge of pompon. european pompon or canadian pompon does not matter.

Aside from the scandis, the canuks and maybe the yanks, I suppose most of you may want to form your own team for the inaugural hockey tourney but I guess many do not now how to play. Here is an instructional video on the basics of hockey

real fight **this game is out next month
Proof that America is a bunch of limp wristed homos: NBC has decided to broadcast "ice dancing" instead of the USA vs. Canada hockey match on its olympic coverage. For Americans to see the game live they will need to watch it on cable or live close enough to the border to get CBC- the non homo olympic coverage.
34 days on snow this season 55 days last season
^^^ par for the course, every olympix NBC's coverage is terrible, their announcers (besides figure skating) are uniformed, and it never fails that all the stuff I wanna see is never live. Prime time coverage is always dominated by some skating event (all of which I don't give a shit about). I watched the downhill event today in Suisse over the internet. What kind of coverage are you guys getting over there? Did you get to see Aiko miss the podium?
One man wolfpack
You canucks look weeeeak. Nearly got caught slippen by the Suisse. You go down Sunday night, its on bitches. AMERICA FUCK YEAH!
One man wolfpack
you'll have to listen to the game on the radio unless you are close enough to Canada to catch the CBC because NBC in America, being a country of limp wristed poofters, is broadcasting figure skating instead.
