The American media (NBC) has made a big deal out of the Scandi rivalry here (mainly XC skiing). Saying that the Finns, Sweeds, and Noweegens all can't stand each other and that they hate to see the other countries succeed. Particularly Norway hates the Sweeds and they can't stand seeing them be successful in XC skiing? Any truth? Ville, Sanna? do you hate Peter Forsberg? I understand rivalry, but seems extreme?
Perhaps our Finnish friends can shed some light on this. I am curious.
P.S. Canada Vs. Finland tomorrow night!

It's not real hate. Just friendly "hate", although there's always some assholes who takes everything too serious.
I think that the "big hate" in xc-skiing is between the Norwegian and Swedes. Finland goes without caring that much of those others.
In alpine skiing it's different in that way that at least I as a Finn am happy that Aksel Lund Svindal is succeeding although he is Norwegian
.
The real so-called-hate is in hockey between Swedes and Finns, it's ages old and the media here makes it bigger than it always is. But, when there is a hockeymatch Finland vs. Sweden, it's not so wise to go cheering for Swedes in a Finnish pub. It's a quite sure way to get beaten.
Finland and Norway used to be more or less Swedish colonies once upon time and thus some anomysity remains.
The Swedes used to really look down on Norwegians when they were really poor after WW-II, now that the Norwegians are loaded with oil money they pay back...
Typically other nordics get along well and swedes must prove themselves NOT to be arrogant bastards in order to be fully approved.
Stereotypical swedish view of a Finn is a ugly racist drunkard with tasteless clothes and pockets filled with knives.
The opposite way a stereotypical swede would be a show off, surfing on money earned by someone else, desperate to look trendy but too coward to choose for himself and thus ended up looking like a clone of long row of similiar tossers.
Obviously skiers, climbers etc. usually get along just fine.
The Dudesons??? Were they popular in Finland? They are taking over the Jackass role on MTV. Jukka is really insane.

I don't like The Dudesons. How to hell it's funny to hurt yourself, even u get paid of it?
But this is creative insanity. Finns take semi-naked sauna on summit of Mont Blanc, Western Europe's highest peak!

Well they're popular at least among teenage boys. Last summer I was in an event where they were also, and they were surrounded by youngsters (not including me).
Yeah, I haven't had cable TV in about a year now but my hotel has like 100 channels and MTV is one of them. I thought only americans enjoyed watching other people's pain, guess its a worldwide thing.

I had scandi land last year at the lodge and there were no fights. That said, Ville got so drunk 3 times that he had snakes crawling on him. Also during those 3 times, he lost the ability to speak any English but still continued to tip the Chuhi back.

Yo Sanna - can't You remember Jukka (Hilden the lean dude that does kung-fu pretty well) was with Us at the Ruka season opening trip some year - I think He had a mate studyin' at LUT.
OK it's possible that You hadn't allready joined the university skiclub back then. Anyhow the dude is pretty good on his snowboard.
The fat git Jarppi does inverts on board suprisingly well too - or the fear of landing on His head, as He often does - doesn't hold Him back from trying and I'd recon it shows
Why on earth would the Scandis fight each other ?
The dudesons are somewhat entertaining, but I'd rather watch Travis Pastrana's NitroCircus stuff - or the Fleshwound film's Crusty demons of dirt series MX-flicks.
