yeah it should take me a week or 2 to carve it onto a wood tile (when im in the office doing NOTHING)--
the drag is every time i look at it again, I notice something small to change.....
agh--
snow-- its snowing every day in town but having trouble sticking, 3degrees in the day, -3 at night kind of temperature, asahidake has at least a meter at the bottom ropeway-- the mountains are good, they would be absolutely fine to hike and ski them, but I sold my snowshoes and am waiting for my marker barons to come... so I cant.
tomorrow a few friends of mine and I will go to asahidake, boot hike up a little bit, just till we can find a good little run, and perhaps make a crap little kicker--
I carve them into wood, then use oil based printing ink. I go to the middle school and use their printing press to print onto paper- bags- shirts--- whatever I want.
the ink takes a few days to dry, but once it sets, it is absolutely not coming out.
I use a 5 layer plywood, the outter layers being a thin sheet of cherry-- as long as you are using a printing press, even 1-2mm deep cuts will be easily visible-
Interesting - wouldn't think it'd be that good to work with.
it works pretty well, it is plywood, but the cherry's surface is all one piece, from one cut of log, it is pretty consistent, and the grain is pretty tight so it prints a good picture-- just takes some time to get the hang of how to work with the grain of the wood (any the plywood shiet). i suppose linoleum is easier for some things, but when it comes to high detail, wood makes the best lines and strongest edges in my opinion-- just have to use a normal knife blade to cut most complicated edges, then after the outlines are cut, its a matter of using the other woodcut tools (u and v shaped tools) to remove the cherry layer off. .... basically using a normal blade to cut the outlines, then its almost like prying the wood off the board.
I'm with ya. Am a bit of a woodworking dork myself. Done some carving as well but only used kusu (camphor) or keyaki (zeldkova) . Both are great to work with but not sure how they'd do with printing.
First you talk about getting rid of guns then you post pix of a CanadianAmerican in rollarskates? Your stange boy KOM. Don't make me post more pix of you and your style.

if you are claiming that picture doesn't work for you then you are in a whole league of strangeness I never even dreamed could exist...

time for a little bump because I finally finished this woodcut today--
to be printed white ink on a dark color-- I went with "Two-Stick Poaching" when I finalized the design-- its about 27cm top to bottom. i lost more hair carving this one-
that looks better than "SKI BANDITO" because the font you originally had for "SKI" was different than the font for "DAISETSUZAN" ---looked bery gaijin.
Now, I could be convinced a Japanese made this.
i must admit that is really nice. you going to print some up?
how's the snow around your parts? many people heading to kurodake for today's opening?

Looks good, looks good. What type of wood you carve out of? One of your previous pics looked like you were using OSB/wafer board.

Yuppers, Ninjas and snow would be a good place to start. big tits and guns a close second
One man wolfpack

Fairy
One man wolfpack
this picture needs to be shown around more. Is that really what Shania Twain looks like? I had no idea. Anyway I figure it fitted with the theme.

when i first saw this, i thought it was a HUGE picture in a rice field

wow... only in japan does such ineffectual precision exist.
(edit: i mean the rice field)
