I hate that for the 11 students at my school chasing the international course at our school's Uni in Hawaii, we were only given one slot for entrance. (I teach at a private prep)

That one slot went to a teacher's daughter. The other 10 students never stood a chance. (many of whom also had higher grades, I might add. A couple would be considered as fluent.)

After acceptance, she gave me her written report on Hawaii, as is required by the Uni. It was written via translation software. I couldn't even understand the grammar fuck-ups.

She had no idea that cheating was unacceptable. (obviously due to her parents... er... teacher(s).) When I explained that she isn't allowed to use translation software, and to rewrite it... she did the exact same thing a second time.

I sat her down and explained that if this was the real world, she'd be expelled, and I'd hope that she didn't expect such royal treatment when she actually arrives in the states.

She cried. Not because I was such a prick ( I was honestly very cordial- knowing full well she honestly didn't know she was wrong) , she cried because she realized how she'd been scammed into being accepted into uni. I didn't anticipate making her cry, but I now realize that accepting that truth would hurt.

Her father now ignores me. Fucking asshole.

The sad part is, I'm willing to bet he established his career here just so he could get her in... all the while the whole school knows that the only teacher who had a problem with her cheating is the one who has already given his resignation.

I will likely never send my child to a private J-school after witnessing such politics and bribes trickle all the way up to the ladder.

you know that plagiarism (剽窃) in Japan is a joke yeah. Especially at the Uni level here - many students just take info from previous sempai's papers, info off the net, slap a bit of their own bullshit on it, along with their name, and thats their graduation paper. There is NO education here at the Uni level, actually not much education at all in Japan but I dont wanna be too cynical now cuz where would I put myself? Actually, since most of my work is outside the classroom maybe I shouldnt call myself a teacher anymore...hmmmm.....

This is the problem with work that deals with people rather than products or money (both Creek and Samurai's posts). I'd like to teach something someday, its honorable. But I don't envy you.

To the thread title - what am I sick of... hmmm. Amazingly little these days. The price of apples and other fresh fruit is stupid. The fact that I can buy a any number of huge abandoned pensions for almost nothing, yet buying a small simple house with 1000m2 of dirt and sunshine and an alpine view is almost impossible.

I have roughly 25-30 high school students. Most of them struggle to string a few words together to make a sentence and English is pretty much their native tongue. Parent/teacher interviews today and I get just one parent and its the parent of my strongest student. Most of the rest just don't care. Sad as I see their kids fall through the cracks.

I'm almost sick of the fact that the leafs are not looking good this year and almost every other friend I have hates them and reminds me any chance they get.

I had about a half dozen students do that for their summer vacation reports, some were incomprehensible, they failed. They must think were are stupid and the translation software is perfect and infallible.
The best bad one was "It eats the cake and it does the homework" I kept imaging "Silence of the Lambs" ...."it puts the lotion in the basket...."

I´m sick of cables.

Like short,long,thick,thin...just name it.

I am sick of guessing wich cable goes where,what does it do and why it is kinked.
I am sick of cables that get kinked by themselves.
I go and fetch a cup of coffe for my tense nerves and lo-and-behold,in the meanwhile the cable has kinked itself with a double fisherman,pigstail,prusik and a doubleinverted cuntfuck. In 3 minutes. And by itself.
Let alone put few cables in a bag for couple of days.
Amazing. Mindboggling. Stupendous.
And why doesnt snakes get all kinked up? You know,a snake pit with 7682 snakes,all messed up and writhing? And no kinks? Amazing. Has to be something about moisture. Maybe I should moisturize,or even vaselinize my cables and cords?

Fruits and veggies are really expensive here for sure. I was back home and was reminded of how cheap they are there, but then I kept hearing how so many farms are going bankrupt left, right, and center to make me think if theyre too cheap back home.

For you guys in the countryside, can you get cheaper fruits/veggies from those unmanned stalls? I can get much cheaper stuff there though its not like its a full stocked supermarket.

Another WTF and scratching my head issue: 6:45am the guy next door starts building a loghouse or something. Hes whacking away with a hammer, cutting stuff with a saw, and banging shit, dropping shit, and not really giving 2 shits that people around him might, heaven forbid, actually wanna sleep in a bit on Sunday. What a tosspot. People like that really, really give me the shits.

I'm sick of the idiots who slide the door closed behind them when they enter a room without looking to see if anyone may be two steps behind them.
