Why aren't you supporting your local shop? You happen to have one of the greatest shops on the planet owned by one of the coolest tele rippers right down the street. Not to mention the most reasonably priced shop in Japan.
How long did I spend in there yesterday drinking coffee and telling jokes with the local shop owner, staff and friends? Amongst a lot of chatter I was telling him about buying this gear. He said "tell me the American online price before buying anything from me".
HH - you speak often without knowing a single fact. It makes you look silly, and if you knew some basic facts, you would not say what you do. That is all I will say on the matter. If you are not mature enough to take this post without a come-back fuss then I will delete this thread and start a new one minus your totally misplaced attempst at drama.
For some reason certain equipment is very, very expensive in Japan. My experience is that beacons are one of those things helmets and GPSs are the other. The other thing is that avi gear doesn't date quickly or wear out and there is comfort in being familiar with one item. As such, even the worst of us gear whores tend to only have one beacon, shovel and probe set. I am willing to bet you will be better off paying the shipping (especially with recent yen strength). The only thing is that once you move into "commercial use" which buying in such bulk will be doing, it is unlikely to slip under the nose of customs unnnoticed so it may also be worth checking tarrifs if you do buy abroad.
The Japanese customs are not that expensive anyway. I just cleared the surfboard and can tell you by own experience what they charge is:
Invoice (including shipping etc fees) price x 0.05
so even if you make a 2000$ order you will be only paying 100$ tax thats still dirt cheap comparing to buy the same shit in japan.
Custums is dependent on the type of goods you are bringing. Generally my experience has been that they never tax media (DVDs etc) are very reasonable about sporting goods like skis, have a higher tarriff on clothing and a very high tarriff on shoes- and that includes ski boots.
OK here is another suggestion HAG.
This comes from past experience owning beacons to give to guests or friends too cheap to buy a beacon.
People dont understand that beacon dont like to be dropped, tossed into the car, stepped on because they wouldn't put them awat or etc. They really just dont care and since this is a modestly big expense for your new OP I would buy off rappie to insure yourself and get the warranty. (my 2 cents)
I have bought most of my beacons via the states, so getting the warranty when they break from rappie is like pulling teeth. (rightfully so of course) Had to spend 2man to fix a beacon once through him. He can find out by the serial number. (my 2 cents worth about 1 cent)
The Mtnlion does sell good stuff but ill retract that post and say that you want the 1 or 2 year warranty.
PS I love Rappie great shit good prices but even he understands that you cant buy everything from him. I spend about 1000 to 2000 dollars there every year with the family. This year boots and odds and ends. Maybe skis for Hiro. You can support him without always going to him.
For one aspect of our guiding we have and will continue to rent all gear from Rapies on a weekly basis.
For another guiding product we offer, I want to own my own kits. I already have some full 'bc kits' spare. Just need a few more.
Warranty is a real issue. We take good care to strap beacons onto people ourselves, turn them on and then watch them take it off at the end of that day, but accidents and poor treatment can still happen.
buying bulk only starts getting charged with 8 or more pieces. Anyways, if you look on it online all the customs charges are explained. I remember looking it up when I imported some stuff.
snp want to bring some poles back for me? prob more hassle than it's worth.
Not trying to highjack here but are beacons really that sensitive to abuse? Because I beat the shit out of mine, its always getting thrown around, in and out of packs, trucks, car trunks, and always bangs against the wall when I hang it up at home. It hasn't failed me yet but its only 3 seasons old.
HAG or anyone else have you had cases of Pieps failing?
Damion I know this is off topic but?
Are you a kabushiki kaisha now?
If you are you must be getting close to pro form.
Next time you see Matsumoto ask him about that kinda of deal.

Yeah, breakage and reliability are perhaps another reason to buy new stuff rather than used as well.
