I reckon you will hate the dukes! I hate touring on them they pull on my boots and give me blisters.
I wont go and farther than mumezawa with them. Look into the beefy dynafits they are more your thing.
Dukes were made to huck cliffs and do crazy stuff. Most of Hakubas crazy stuff is touring gear vs the slack country
is where you cliffs and things to pop off of. I used my old freerides last season 50% of the time and like them
much better for touring. This season im switching to dynafit with a 115 ski width which I will ski 60 to 70 of the
time.
So far I have only evr used Dynafits. The skis are almost never going to go further than slack country and backbowls of happo, often just booting them up on my shoulder. But they do need touring bindings for those times when I want/need them. I have a spare set of Dynafits and would happily go with them however I am very worried about not having any brakes. Bending the widest Dynafit brakes to 125mm will offer almost no benefit. Word is I can force wide Solly brakes into Dynafits, possibly. I can't afford new bindings, but the brake thing has me worried.
I wouldnt jam brakes in thats for sure. Skiing without brakes on big skis for slackcountry isnt a good idea as well.
What skis did you buy at 125? You dont have mush options at that width really other than bendind the dynafit brakes.
One of the guys that toured with you did that.
My dukes are the broken ones that are stuck into Din mode so no good to you. I personally don't mind touring in Dukes although dynafits are better. They are less sloppy than Frichis and Naxos, have better ski crampons and they are more robust and that isn't just for hucking cliffs. I feel a lot better thowing my Brockers accross a stream than I do my Naxo mounted bros. Their only problem is that you can't easily adjust the heal risers (although I am getting better at it) and you can't switch between tour and regular without taking off the ski. The risers are a bit stubby as well.
Wow that is a beefy ski more beefy than I would buy stiffness wise for myself.
Considering that ski then Ill say go with barons. A bit lighter and I dont think
you will care about maxing the din out to 12 anyways. I ski on reduced din to
save my knees unless im in danger land. So 99% of the time im on reduced din at
about 9. That is going to be a heavy set-up more than likely the same weight
as my comi kazi set-up.
Yeah beefy, alright, everyone can stop saying that now. Performance is all in the mind and you are all dogging my thoughts. I can ski this ski.
It will be a bit heavy, not too bad, and not for long distances anyway. And not that bad compared to some of my splitboard setups. I really wanted some DPS Lotus 120's - light, fat and easy to ski. Also about $1000 - keep dreaming. Rapies has had some great skis at less than half price.
Perhaps I should ask on snowjapan for some Barons or Dukes. Not getting much action here
Funnily enough, SJ just got their classifieds forum back up and running after a half year or so hiatus. Hey, you never know - stranger things have happened.
HaHa pissed off a few people!
Sweet some of us can get the good ripping gear from Snow Japan.
I figure there are a good few of you that fall under this section of SJ.

what good gear? The only good gear that will be up there soon are the Oakleys I have listed here...
Dukes, small size, $320, getting delivered to my wife in US hotel so no international shipping cost. If I didnt take that deal now she might not be back there for the rest of the year. So I went for it.
thats a great deal HAG, best I have seen in a long time
Actually not really so good. You can get them new in the states for well under $300 new. I just didn't trust some private individual to ship them to the hotel on time.
DO you need them to be able to accept vibram soles or will you only use them for DIN soles>
34 days on snow this season 55 days last season
By your question I assume you have DIN only (those broken ones?)
I own two pairs of ski boots, both are AT boots with vibram soles. I don't even own a pair of downhill bindings.

After camber, the bent Dynafit brake would not even touch the snow surface in any meaningful way.
I bought 09/09 Atomic Big Daddy, 190. RC in front of the binding, C under foot. Ass soon to be = kicked.

Mamabear only tours in the randonee racing dynafits. She is very concerned about keeping the weight down, it seems.

41m radius. No trees. No turning.
Haha you will have to change how you deal with safe locations with that type of ski.
YOu dont want to make 3 turns and stop.
