Since my current job is coming to its end shortly and there were many weeks of vacation that I hadn't had time to keep, last week was a very warmly welcomed holiday for me. As usually, I didn't just lay on a couch at home but packed the car and drove to Lapland to a place called Pyhä ( direct translation would be "Holy"). This time of autumn in Lapland is called Ruska (for that I don't know any clever translation to english) and it means the few weeks of the autumn of which are full of colors more brighter than in the southern Finland.
Our goal for the holiday was just quite light day-hiking. This is a view from the Pyhä-fell to the Pyhä-lake.
A small lake in the middle of the fells.
I was there.
We drank our coffees (and whiskeys) from these mugs called "kuksa".
Our first dayhike took us to the couloir called Isokuru.
I'll have to say that although the weather may not seem to be cold, it was minus degrees in the night and only a few plus degrees in the day (plus wind). Yes, the winter is coming.
The forests were full of berries so of course I picked some blueberries and lingonberries!
This is a view from day two, from a swamp to the Pyhä-fell. It was so cloudy that the fell is hiding behind them.
We took a historically old chairlift to the top. The lift was open for the second last time, it was closed at saturday because of a new chairlift.
View from the lift.
This is a lousy shot to picture the colors.
Blueberries.
Pyhä-fell in the early morning sun.
And as far as I know, this picture tells me to take my skis with me for the next Lapland-trip!
There are no new posts.
NICE pics Sanna. It looks like you are closer to winter than us. I see you are NOT wearing a Sanna Hat. Not cold enough yet?
54 days on snow this season 55 days last season
Very nice scenery. Different to here, I like it.
very nice scenery. you should get a red hoodie and carry wooden baskets full of cookies though i think. would fit.
salty margaritas
that is a sweet cup. They made it for you i guess?
It most certainly would have been cold enough but I really misjudged the weather while packing the hats. Mistake.
Daryl: In Finland you can buy those cups basically anywhere at Lapland and they burn the your name to it after buying it. I've had my own kuksa for 5 years now and it's really handy on a trips and hikes. That white thing in it is reindeer's bone (I didn't kill it)
And for Pinky, you're not the only one saying that. I don't have a red hood but my shell jacket is red
This time of autumn is really nice, since the air isn't heavy and too warm to breath while biking etc.
Very nice pics.
Between this thread, Daryl's China one and Mr Killjoy's France thread, PN never ceases to impress.
