Hey! Complete 180 degree turn since getting back from Alaska but it was good to get back on the bike and do a tour that had been in the making for about a year. Especially with wonky knee. I completely screwed this one up last year when my car battery died in the worst possible spot. Cycling with a tent, sleeping bag, mat, 2 days of food, a stove, spare parts, and 3L of water ain't easy for sure. Anyway, it was a good long 2-day tour with about 10 hrs in the saddle and i'm glad Shelley didn't kill me... yet.

Wow, blonde girls in lycra. Raising the bar yet again for PoachNinja TRs. Nice work Pinky!

Pinky,
Great photos and looks like a nice trip! This must be the lovely and talented Shelly I have heard so much about from Gin. I have a couple of obvious observations. Firstly, she is much too pretty to be hanging out with the likes of you! Secondly, lose that pinstriped blue riding outfit. Adding the baseball socks is quite a hideous combo. Seems worse than Ninjaman's snow suit! Good thing you were miles in the woods, with nobody to see. Shelly must have a great sense of humor, can't wait to meet her.
Really loved the nature photos, riding looked awesome. Is it time for me to send some new MTB threads? Thanks for the post!

I KNEW I shouldn't have put "blonde" and "lycra" into the same post because now all the search engines will bring in the pervs. Already Snowdevil is all over it so it is too late
Yes snowdevil, you can start posting mountain bike TRs. It is that time of year, I guess.

I don't know how you guys manage to keep going with all these injuries you're picking up...

Very cool TR, but...
I don’t know much in this crazy world, but I do know a little about cycle touring and the first rule is never never wear anything more than a hydration system on your back. Because of the angle you ride at heavily loaded backpacks like those ones are terrible for your lower back, shoulders, arms and wrists and will tire you out way, way faster than you normally would be. They also adversely affect your respiration in ways that hiking doesn't and screw up you center of gravity.
For your next tour you will do well to buy (or rent) some kind of rack system and panniers to get that weight off your upper body. And a full suspension mountain bike is not recommended. Even if it is locked out, cause a large percentage of your energy is not being efficiently used to propel you forward rather it is being absorbed by the rig. All you downhillers gotta understand that sometimes stiff frames can be your best friends.
Anyhow, beers, blonds, and Auzzie backcountry are all good so your about 95% right. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.
And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too.
Thanks Mr CH. I definitely underestimated the stress the pack would have on the body. Waaaay more brutal than hiking with a pack and slowed the pace down massively.
Will look into the panniers, but I don't know how well panniers and a rigid frame are gonna work for a rugged track like that. Maybe doing these tours when it's warm enough to fit everything you need in a heli-pro is the way forward. There sure as hell wasn't anybody else doing what we were.
salty margaritas
I don't know much about blondes and lycra, but I digressed to ghetto slang. When I said "threads" , I meant the awful choice of attire that Pinky chose for the adventure.
Now Spring has sprung, and the Mt. Biking is really getting going in the north GA mountains as well as all across the Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountains, I will strive to post a thread and some local trail pix very soon. So if any Ninja's find themselves in the SE USA and want to ride, just hit me up.
Sorry for the mis-speak, my liver is older than Pink's!
Dude, the lesson is ALL weight off the upper body not less weight on the upper body. Don’t try to use a smaller pack with less stuff you’ll only get yourself into trouble.
Tracks like that are exactly what hard tail MTB and panniers were built for and you will be much happier with a set up like that than with the bikes you used. From what I can see of the pictures those roads you are on are pretty cozy compared to some of the stuff people tour on. Besides I was riding trails like that before full suspension was available on anything other than motorcycles and we did fine. Again rent a bike and see what you think.
Anyways, I have no doubt that you are strong enough to handle anything, but when I saw the pics of that poor girl riding that bike, with a pack as big as she had (which it seems to me she is also wearing up to high on her body) and you said ten hours of biking I felt her pain. I’ve done stuff like that before and it ain’t fun.
Geeze, can I ever take the fun out of your TR.
And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too.
Well the major league baseball teams celebrated opening day yesterday. Could not have wished for a nicer day or better home opener for the Atlanta Braves. Then I chuckled when I looked at Pinky's map reading photo. He looks like the Babe Ruth of Mt. Biking! Ride on Pinky!!
Are you serious??? Can't believe this girl hasn't stabbed you in your sleep. Nice TR Pinkster.
One man wolfpack
Heli skiing in Alaska followed by a couple of days of touring with a beautiful woman - you is one lucky man.
One of the best TRs yet to date. Nothing beats going out with a beautiful woman. You go Pinky!!
