If you've never done a 24hr mountain bike race, then you should. good time. anyway, Damian, our new mate Crazy Tony and I formed the Repeat Offenders to race in the Scott 24hr (Australian 24hr National Championships). I think we placed in the top third of the 3 man teams, completing 400km's in the 24hrs, which wasn't bad considering we had a pretty social approach to it and i had a broken wrist and thumb.
The scene.
Damian is hardly worth taking a photo of - unless there's a hot chick behind him.
Crazy Tony eats kilometers for breakfast.
ladies.....if you're reading this, i'm available.
Damian.... berm.
Transition zone. we did lots of transitioning.

How much uphill?

I did the 24 hours at Snowshoe in WV with a bunch of bikeshop roadies back in college, pretty fun but way to much lycra for me.
Fun Fact: Last year a girl was malled by a griz on the trail used for the 24 hour MTB race in Anchorage. It happend only a few hours after the race finished if I remember right.
One man wolfpack
Roughly 1/2 was uphill
. not entirely sure, but i guess over 20km loop we probably had roughly 500-600m elevation gain.

500 meters eh steep or nice climb?

switchback city. hardly ever switched out of the middle chainring. nice flowy downhills once you got to the top.
nothing exciting about the track (no technical bits), but really nice and flowy.
2500 people in the race. Entries were $140 each. Sponsors probably paid for most of the overhead. The local MTB club would have marshalled for free i guess. Plus consessions would've made an absolute fortune.
The HAKUBA 24HR is this weekend. Not sure if it's too late for entries, but you guys should do it if you can.... really good prep/training for touring again.

Maybe in the future but not with kids. Plus we are finishing the next carpeting project. The dinning lounge is getting new carpet.
Im the babysitter this weekend. Still looks fun. Dont really have treeless areas in hakuba so the xcountry is going to have to be carved out by hand.

you should try to sneak on a team for a lap just to see what the course is.
