I had pretty cool experience the other day. I went for a little summer stroll to take in the sights. Just as I arrived at my destination the looming clouds started to growl and the thunder storm began. The clouds socked in the ridge so I just chilled out on the lookers right ear of Kearazu for a bit. Then it opened up a bit and thats when the lightening storm started. I scooted across and over to the other side and watched the weather go all Kearazu. It was raining pretty good the whole time and I got soaked. Then I was checking out things in the Yari direction and a bolt of lightening bigger than I have seen struck what only looked to be a valley away. This was my cue to run like girl and find shelter.

wow, you were up there for that. The late afternoon sunbeam light show through the clouds in the valley was great.
Nice photos.
People say of there is lightening in the mtns that you should not sit under a big rock for shelter, rather, sit out in the opon on your backpack. I've never tried it.
I never want to try it!
Awesome photos dude you shame me everytime!

When it came to shelter i really had no idea. I had a walking stick/antenna and my camera. Not much in the way of shelter around there, the closest thing was the hut 45 minutes away... where the cold beer was.
It never really clicked like it did that day but, the one prime reason Japan slays over others is that there is cold beer machines in the Alpine. We take it for granted but that is one huge luxury over the western world.
Sweet pics - liking #3.
And although I've heard the same thing as HAG said about sitting on your backpack out in the open during a lightning storm, it really seems to be tempting fate. No shame in running like a little girl.
i've never experienced it either. Supposedly your ice axe isn't a good thing to have around at the time. Apparently ice axes hum you a little tune in a lightning storm.
if you didn't read the story about Grand Teton in July a few weeks after my attempt, worth a read.
sick pics though. inspiration to climb up to Karamatsu/Kaerazu in the next few weeks.
is anyone taking the 24th off work? anyone keen to full trip from Korenge to Goryu-dake along the ridgeline? or maybe Hotaka?
salty margaritas
is anyone taking the 24th off work?
Work? You mean with a boss "can I have the day off please" kind of work? Grotesque.
I am yet to have a nice walk in the mtns this summer, too much house painting. I'd probably come along if you wanted me there.
There is some now unpopular slabs of rock with a few rusty pitons between Karamatsu and Kaerazu. Also some stuff on Goryu.
On a side note saw MR. Rappie today at around 6am on my jog he mustve been going for a hike somewhere

is this an inadvertent claim to let us know about your jogging skills? Don't go there....
There aint no skills that is for sure.

where were these pics taken
If Daryl won't answer specifics, they are mountains around Hakuba. A few hours hike from the top of the Happo ski lifts, which do run for summer hikers.
