So they were practically giving away avalung IIs at a local outdoor shop, but a sticker on the box said (in Japanese) that the product has a "fixed lifespan" and was only usable until January 2012. Is this true? My half-assed search of the rest of the interweb has turned up no info on this as well. The product appears to be brand new in box, with tags and seal on mouthpiece attached. Sticker appears to be something the shop made up and put on the box themselves, not anything by BD.

Shinobi - there's still 2 left at Kojitsu (off Rt. 8 ) for 2980 yen. One in each size.

I can't imagine why there

I can't imagine why there would be any use by date.

I would imagine they refer

I would imagine they refer to the "5 years recommended maximum lifetime of the avalung",
as stated in the last sentence under the INSPECTION AND RETIREMENT section.

If you thoroughly go through the manual its clear that there is no expiration date.
The actual life span of the avalung depends highly on usage, storage and maintenance.

Thanks tsondaboy - that's

Thanks tsondaboy - that's the most logical reason I've come across so far.

FT - yeah, I'd be happy to pick them up for you, but it sounds like Shinobi will be able to get to it first, so I'll leave it up to him. If for some reason he can't, just let me know and I'll try to get them next time I'm in Toyama.
