I am coming to ski there in Hakuba for next season. I know that you dont have (at least yet) dealer of Snowpulse bags in Japan. Does anyone knows of possibilities to refill that kind of bag there in Hakuba??? Thanks about info already now.
Sorry 013 the tanks that Snowpulse uses are not "Japan approved" yet. I do know that most companies are working on solutions for this but right now unless you know someone who works a facility that fills air tanks and is willing to break japanese law, your out of luck.
Transport in the plane is not a problem. Its allowed to take the avalanche bag with you. You just have to take cartridge separate and so... there are good advices in the pages of Snowpulse etc..
I heard that in Hakuba it is possible to refill BCA bags and thats why I started to think possibilities with Snowpulse also.
but thanks about answers guys. Let me know if you hear something new about this
We had a big talk about this on the Antarctica boat with a rep for snowpulse (now Mammut) bags.
While you are legally able to carry a bag by the IATA, there is still a degree of discretion on behalf of the airline staff. Even with the documentation to explain their legality people have had ABS cartridges confiscated. I ABS (and presumably snow pulse) now can be filled in Japan, so traveling with an empty canister is your best bet. I had to pull my ABS canister out of checked luggage and prove it was empty before traveling to AK last March.
I understand what you mean. "The last word" will say the "door man" of the check in I have talked with my flight company and they promised that everything is under control. My "agent" of company will info staff of check in... So probably I will try to carry full cartridge. But lets see...
Sorry, I didnt understand what you said about refilling?? You know that it is possible to refill Snowpulse in Hakuba nowadays?? Did you mean that?

If you worry about how to refill it, there is a good offer at Sport-Conrad site. http://www.sport-conrad.com/page/product-detail/__/shop/prod/20670
New cartridge just 50 euros.
I don't think you have so bad luck, that use must use two of them
How about airlines, do they allow those?

No there is nowhere to refill the bag in Hakuba. Nagano city has a scuba store though.
