Recently TR and beta traffic on Poachninja has dwindled. I know this is largely due to the use of other media such as FB and other social media to share ski stoke (indeed we in the financial community have even set up a Bloomberg chat room on Japan skiing). While I know that this is, in part, due to the ubiquitousness of the other media, it is also due to Poachninja's basic interface. So, I ask you, the community, if I were to invest a bit to upgrade Poachninja would you contribute more? I am thinking of bulk photo uploading, a live chatroom, direct links to other social media to inform you of new TRs and beta, better tagging to bring in new people interested in Japan's skiing and what ever you, the community, can think of to help improve our home.
Poachninja can never be Facebook but there are inherent advantages to a forum. It is far more open and brings in new blood, whereas most social media is limited to groups of existing friends. Many of us here met for the first time through forums, be it TGR or SnowJapan or even HusbandsForJapanVisas.com so it would be nice to maintain an open forum. A ski forum is also specific to our favorite pastime, without the banal updates from long forgotten acquaintances about how they feel about Mondays or troubles with their pets. Unlike a ski blog, we all get to interact in a two way flow of information contributing as much or as little as desired.
So if you would like for me to enhance the Poachninja experience so as to help revive the community, please, speak up (lurkers, now is your time). If you have ideas for improvements, here is the place. I have no intention of commercializing the site nor due I intend to shut it down but I do want to know if it is worth a bit extra effort on my behalf so as to get a bit of effort from you. Ninjaman

There are no new posts.
I just had an idea for a "TR Generator" to simplify the making of TRs. Any ideas on what would make your life easier making TRs would be great.

Interesting question. I did notice that the place had gone very quiet over the past few months.
What I have noticed is that when some of the key contributors go quiet, so does the forum. DB is gone, pinky gone quiet, FT, Tele etc... Some have gotten stiched/married with kids and had their balls removed in the process
moved to faraway lands. Sometimes also, some of the threads feels more like a private chat room between friends (nothing wrong with that) rather than a forum in the pure sense. There are a lot of interesting topics out there that are important to us in BC that are never touched here. Be it the recall of an airbag (not many users i know) or an avalung or the topic of RFI affecting beacon operations etc...
I think the niche of this forum is its BC/SC + Local knowledge vibe. Seems it is more Haks-centric though at the moment.
As for TRs.... it's tough man. Theoretically I could post in PN, skitour, camptocamp, SJ, splitboard.com, splitboard.fr, TGR, etc... After a while I just feel like a poser if I put it out in too many places and it is just time consuming. So in the end you just post in places where people seem to appreciate the effort. If you post a TR and nobody is interested then why post another one? Then you have less TRs, then less readers and less likely to get feedback. It becomes a negative feedback loop. Personally I just tend to put my pics in my own website and when my friends ask me then I just give them a link, that's what I have done of late. Also I know there are a lot of knuckle-dragging lurkers (not all lurkers are knuckle draggers) who are just out to get beta and shred your stashes and never contribute anything, I am not sure how you can get around that but that will always kill some of the potential TRs. Maybe different levels of access to view TRs, Beta, etc for ppl who sign-up and contribute. ie snow bunny member has little or no rights, De Le Rue members have access to everything. You get from one to the next based on level of contribution. So in the end the ppl who view ur TRs are ppl who you know contribute themselves to PN.
You could also spice things up with a contest. Worst dressed/fashion member pic, best vista, best action/white room, etc... to motivate ppl to post.
In the end you can never please everybody anyway. Is it such a bad thing if viewership goes down? Is it an end in itself?
Whichever way you take it, good luck!
Just out of curiosity, do you have more info on the stats? Where are most viewers from, etc?
Things I want to see:
1. Chatbox
2. I'm not one for limiting anyones rights, this place needs very little moderation.
3. CHANGE, we've had the same banner and front page foto for years now.
4. weather widgets for resort areas
5. reliable webcam bank (SJ has a good one)
One man wolfpack
1. upload to facebook button. (i don't use facebook but that might inspire people who do to post here before they post there - at least they will still "own" their own content).
2. bulk photo uploader, preferably inside the acual post window (like wordpress).
3. ability to post with HTML (like wordpress) - makes it easier to cross post.
salty margaritas
1. a "like" button, and a "this totally sucks" button
2. more community service initiatives (Goo collection drives, etc)
3. soft porn

We need more than just forum content and TRs. We need to have relevent Japan info on the resorts.
Picture hosting is good but not really important. Linking through FB is a great tool.

The one problem with using FB as your photo host site is that most workplaces do not allow FB and most people use forums etc. at work

Dude I want to float ideas around but would rather do so in person.

In person is fine but in the forum it may spur others to come up with ideas related to yours.
