Happo One

Happo One is the biggest freeriders mountain in Hakuba, also the most expensive lift tickets and lots of moguls. The base station is at 800m and the top lift at 1800m. The terrain opens up well sometimes for a perfect fall-line run of the full vert on offer, particularly in the side country on both the north and south faces.

Some people think that Happo has secret spots, its doesn't really, it just doesn't have enough poachers on the hill on any one day besides perhaps a weekend when there is little pow left over from the last storm. It is not uncommon to see holiday makers from other countries lapping the 'secret lines'.

Patrol enforcement

Generally the patrol at Happo are easy going unless you poach an obviously dangerous line such as....

Side Country freeriding

Happo has no hassle access to excellent sidecountry. Exit ropes at the patrol hut from the top lift and hike for between 0 and 20 minutes up the ridge. The choices are endless and the end of run exits very easy to deal with. Perfect low-effort side country access followed by easy endings. This makes the Happo side country suitable for the inexperienced in terms of access and exits, however in between they can find themselves in terrain that is not at all suitable for the inexperienced. Its easy to get into avalanche trouble in Happo's side country. Don't underestimate it.

North Side

Higher elevation lines are accessed by hiking up the ridge above the Grat chair. Lower elevations lines can be hit by dropping lookers right off the Alpen Quad. All exits require a river crossing and a long flat traverse out a gravel road, followed by a 3km walk back to the base on a sealed road.

South Side

Also accessed by hiking west up the ridge above the Grat chair. Exits north of the river that runs between Happo and 47 and dumps you in the Western edge of Misorano. Ideally you have timed this perfectly to coincide with a shuttle to take you back to Happo or you have 3-4km walk back to the base on a sealed road.

Park

Happo doesn't have a terrain park. However, in the spring of last year there was a High Cascade park built just for snowboarders.
