Moutain Biking in Hakuba

Hakuba has several summer trails & construction roads that are ideal for Mountain Biking, but they are difficult to link. This is the start of an effort.

Ochikura

Neighborhood: Ochikura

Trail Type: Fire/Gravel Road 50%, Single Track 30%, Sealed Road 20%
Distance: 9k
Duration: 1-2hrs
Elevation Gain: 100m
Climbing: Minimal
Skill Level: Intermediate (Super sketchy in parts though)

Trail Description: Trailhead starts at an undeveloped neighborhood between Iwatake and Tsugaike called Four Season. The neighborhood is Ochikura. Trail is firetrail that drops about 100m in 3-4kms an eventually spits you out at some rice paddies in front of the 148. take a right on the 148 and then an immediate right up the sealed road heading for Tsugaike. 250m up the hill on the right is a sealed road with some more rice paddies, which forks (take the gravel road on the left). This is sketchy single track following a man-made river, in parts without much room to cycle. In a few places here a fall would mean hospitalization, so you'll need to get off the bike in places. Eventually you will hit a water hut and you will need to turn right and meet up with the gravel road that runs along the west bank of the Kusugawa River. This road will spit you out back out on the sealed road you originally started climbing. Keep heading north up the hill and you will immediately notice a gravel road on the left hand side of the road. This will eventually lead to a pretty miserable creek crossing made more miserable by carrying a bike over your shoulders. Head further up road and take a right back into Four Season on the sealed road and complete the loop.
